Dr. Colquitt believes getting dental treatment should be as comfortable as possible.  If you have an anxiety or a phobia about visiting the dentist, Dr. Colquitt offers options for sedation dentistry from his Dallas dental office. Together, you and Dr. Colquitt will come up with the best option for your care, so you can experience relaxing treatment and improved oral health.

Sedation Dentistry: Options for Stress-Free Dental Care

We present patients with several different sedation methods, so they can select what’s best for them. Our sedation treatments include:

Sedation Dentistry in Dallas

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide is a gas, sometimes referred to as laughing gas, which helps you experience a feeling of relaxation during your dental appointment. Nitrous takes effect within minutes, producing a calm and comfortable feeling for the anxious dental patient. While your smile is being cared for, you’ll feel at-ease and will be given oxygen as soon as the treatment is over. The oxygen will work to reverse the sedation effects, and you will be able to drive yourself to and from your appointment.

Oral Conscious Sedation

One of the most commonly used methods of dental sedation is oral conscious sedation.  Upon arriving at Dr. Colquitt's office, you are given medication that creates a sense of deep relaxation.  As the medicine takes effect, you’ll be able to sit back in our comfortable treatment room. We also offer warm blankets and relaxing music to help create a peaceful environment.  Because oral conscious sedation medication wears off slower than nitrous oxide, you’ll need a companion to take you to and from your appointment. You will be completely able to return to work the next day and resume your normal schedule.

IV Sedation

In-office IV sedation is given intravenously, as the name indicates, and produces a deeper feeling of relaxation during treatment. This method of sedation is typically used for more comprehensive treatments to help patients relax during longer appointments. Dr. Colquitt will help you select the appropriate sedation method, based on your treatment plan, anxiety level, and length of your office visit.

Our Dallas sedation dentistry services prove to be an amazing treatment aid for our anxious patients, helping them to finally get the dental treatment they need, without the stressful experience. Our highly trained staff is committed to your comfort throughout your procedure.

What Will Sedation Dentistry Feel Like?

While you won’t be asleep during your visit, sedation produces a deep feeling of relaxation – your appointment will seem to pass quickly, and you will have little to no memory of your treatment. This is especially helpful for patients whose anxiety is triggered by sights, sounds, or smells experienced during a dental appointment.

With the nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation methods, you’ll be able to signal to Dr. Colquitt if you’re feeling uncomfortable and follow any instructions he may have for you.  Sedation dentistry is both safe and effective in helping nervous patients get the care they need.

Don’t Let Fear of the Dentist Get in the Way of Your Oral Health

Part of achieving and maintaining a healthy smile is visiting a dental office for check-ups and preventive care. If you’ve avoided the dentist because of fear or anxiety, you have options that will allow you to feel comfortable and get essential oral health treatment.
